Just like weather reports, not all fishing reports and predictions are accurate. Fortunately however, my recent Memorial Day fishing report proved close to the content. Moreover, I have all of the confidence that the next ten days will prove more of the same with our inshore and offshore game fish, subject only to summer storms. The summer tides are here, offering great opportunities.
Offshore; Tarpon, Snapper, Grouper, Permit, Cobia and other species are here for the taking on several of the reefs. Heavier rods and reels, Crabs, Pinfish, Threadfins, Shrimp, Mullet for baits. Tarpon hunters need to get out early in the morning and witness the migration just off the beaches of Sanibel, Captiva and Cayo Costa. They are in Pine Island Sound, Charlotte Harbor and Boca Grande Pass in good numbers.
Inshore: Snook, Redfish, Trout, Flounder, Sharks and Mangrove Snappers will keep one busy when working the tides. I recommend outgoing tides for Snook; incoming tides for Redfish. Moving water for all other species should yield good results.
Pictured here is Cal and son Chris Keil of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada holding matching Redfish they caught on an incoming tide. The family picture includes daughter Cassie and wife Diane. Cassie is a good fisher-lady, but also enjoys Manatee, dolphin and other wildlife encounters. Cassie is engaged and is planning the wedding for October 14 of this year. Congratulations Cassie! I took her fiancée out a couple of years ago. He is a fire fighter and I wish him to be safe. I look forward to seeing them all again soon.
My friend (neighbor), Tom Miller of Marengo, Illinois is pictured with his first Snook while on my ‘Captain for Hire’ program from his dock in Cape Coral. He was thrilled to learn that a number of big Snook, Jack Crevalle and small Tarpon are in good numbers in the canal system. He was more thrilled to learn effective techniques to catch them, so that he can take his grandchildren during their Thanksgiving visit and teach them to catch fish. Nice job Tom.
Another recent trip hosted a junior angler from New Berlin, Wisconsin. Jaydn Trevorrow, proudly poses for a picture with one of many Seatrout he caught during a 4 hour charter with his family and friends (pictured here as well). Nice job Jaydn. Looking forward to doing it again. Tell grandpa Scott to get you back on board next year!
