(Ft. Myers Beach to Charlotte Harbor)
Last week produced good fishing offshore as well as inshore. Red Grouper, Lane Snapper, Permit, Gray Snappers and a few Cobia were caught on live Pinfish, shrimp, squid and crabs. Many fisherman and guides enjoyed a good bite anywhere from 3 to 30 miles offshore.
The inshore bite consisted of Snook, Black Drum, Redfish, Seatrout and Mangrove Snapper for the most part. Pictured here is Shannon Poff of Ohio holding a nice ‘slot’ Redfish she caught on a shrimp along the mangroves. She also proudly displays a ‘hard-fighting’ Black Drum caught on a shrimp around Cayo Costa. They were just two of the many fish boated last Saturday. She also caught her limit of Mangrove Snapper while drifting Boca Grande Pass on the backside of an outgoing tide. Shannon is one of the best lady anglers that I have the pleasure to fish with.
Tides will be high from Punta Rassa to Charlotte Harbor during the morning and early afternoon all this week, providing lots of great fishing opportunity. Lots of bait fish for cast netting. Shrimps are good size for buying. If the weather holds, the fishing should remain good for an extended period beyond the coming, ‘new moon’ phase.
