By Captain Terry Fisher

It is that time of year when the SWFMIA have their product show at the Grey Hound Race Track parking lot on Bonita Road. This is an exciting event that 1st Mate Vicki and I are always excited to participate. It starts on Thursday and ends Sunday (February 28-March 3rd). Look for us at the Coastal Angler Magazine/Fish Face Charters booths. I will also be doing daily fishing seminars at the Frank’s Fishing Village. These seminars are designed to assist fishermen and ladies looking to improve their level of experience and angling success through discussion and demonstrations. Vicki and I are encouraging anyone interested to stop by our booth and check the seminar schedule.

Fishing has improved considerably over the last couple of months. The waters north of the power lines in Pine Island Sound are clean and colorful. The bite is spotty during certain times of the day for every species, but hard work and determination should always produce some satisfactory results. My clients have all had success in catching Sheepshead, Redfish, Black Drum, Spanish Mackerel, Triple Tail and Seatrout.

Pictured is Bruce Knutson of Helena, Montana with a nice Triple Tail he caught off of a crab ‘buoy’ located off of Cayo Costa Island about 4 miles out. Bruce got the ‘fever’ we spent a whole day chasing this species. Bruce landed and released 4 or 5 smaller Triple Tail during the day. His lovely wife Barbara (who also loves to fish) joined us the prior day. They both caught lots of fish. Bruce is retired military and being a veteran myself, I thank Bruce for his service and unselfish commitment to our country. Thank you Bruce and Barbara!

Last month I did a fishing seminar at the Plantation Village in Ft. Myers and was hired by Mr. Mike Muscanell to take his grandson, Alex Hoffman of Downingtown, Pennsylvania fishing. Alex proved his angling abilities by boating a number of fish. He is pictured with grandfather holding a Triple Tail. Alex is also pictured with one of the largest Spanish Mackerel of this year caught in Pine Island Sound. Good job Alex. Hope to see you next year!

I was very fortunate this year to be reunited with a couple of my favorite charter clients (friends) from Zurich, Switzerland, Dominick and Anita Wackerlig. This year, Anita’s best friend, Marcella, from England (via Milano, Italia) joined the ‘party’. I am pictured with the two beautiful ladies after a brief stop at Cabbage Key. Anita is pictured with a Redfish she caught during a brief time of fishing prior to lunch. Marcella is pictured with a Sheepshead. The whole fishing/boating party is pictured at Cabbage Key. It was a great day on the water regardless of being foggy and I am looking forward to seeing them again next year!
