by Pam Sikes & Sue Longman

After washing out last year due to Hurricane Irma, Pam & Armond Sikes finally accomplished their objective this year. With perfect weather, calm seas and no major boat problems, 8 boats arrived to enjoy the beautiful Naples Boat Club on Naples Bay September 18 – 21.

CCCC member cruising inThe Sikes’ on Spoiled Yacht’n and Joe & Sandra Vizzini on Truly Blessed took advantage of the mirror seas and arrived a day early to enjoy Naples. On Tuesday Hal & Dee Moss on Hardee III; Jon & Elise Lynch on Desperado; Doug & Michelle Rhees on Lunasea; Phil & Pat Kryger on Y Knot; Tal & Kathie Leonard on Rhode Waves and Jim & Edie Limbright (with 3 dogs and 2 cats) on Nevermind all trickled in without incident. Bruce & Sue Longman drove by car and spent their first night at the Cove Inn, but moved over to Nevermind for the remaining two nights.

Chef Armond wowed everyone with his smoked BBQ brisket. Someone said he was up all night tending the smoker? Accompanying the brisket, Pam served potato salad, baked beans and apple pie alamode. It was Pam’s turn the next 2 mornings for breakfast. She served a crockpot breakfast sausage/egg casserole that was unbelievably good in addition to the usual array of fruit, juices and pastries.

Members enjoying the pool. After a day of pool lounging, cards in the air conditioned clubhouse, lunch out, shopping and exploring Tin City or just loafing, cocktail time brought the group together for heavy appetizers and any leftovers from the previous night’s dinner.

Our final night’s dinner was at the adjacent Wharf Tavern for their Thursday Night Special – 2 whole Maine lobsters with accompanying side dishes. Bibs and claw crackers were mandatory. Never to pass up a lobster special, the Petersons, Jettons, and Todds drove down for the occasion and joined us for the feast.

Members enjoy a lobster dinner. After dinner we all adjourned to the clubhouse for dessert – mango cobbler and apple pie, both alamode. Yum. Following dessert we were divided into teams and played “Catch Phrase”. The biggest problem turned out that everyone was helping everyone else guess the current phrase and didn’t remember which team they were on. The whole group convulsed in laughter. A fun time was had by all.

Unbelievably, the weather held and everyone had a smooth ride home the following morning. This cruise was about as perfect as you can get. Many thanks to Pam & Armond. You did good!
