ON THE FLATS REPORT
Red Fish were hiding from me this weekend, but on the East side against the first row of Islands Snook, Snapper and Tarpon, all were pretty easy. The tarpon wanted top water plugs. The larger Heddon Torpedo or The Skitter Walk, and it was darker colors, like gold or bronze colors. The Trick to the hook up was starting and stopping the lure with a short hard pull. Then a complete stop for 2 seconds, and repeat.
Snook seem to like the new Rapala Rip-stop. Cast close, up under the mangroves. Follow with 2 short twitches to the rod tip, then pause. Do that a couple times. If no hit, reel slow to moderate back to the boat. I had one hit like that on the way in 10 feet from the boat.
For the flounder, try a shrimp under a popping cork, shallow water and the shrimp about 6 inches off the bottom.

Lady fish and Jacks are swarming the Harbor. The lure of choice is the Storm twitch, reel and pause or twitch it and they cannot resist. Once you catch a Lady fish, put it under a float about 5 feet and let it swim away from the boat. Hopefully you’ll give a hundred pound tarpon an aerobic work-out, keep’s a tarpon’s heart healthy!
