Keep an eye out for people swimming or wading, especially when boating near beaches and sandbars.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wildlife.<\/strong> Look for manatees and the flat circles they create in the water. Obey speed zones to protect wildlife from boat collisions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Weather and tides.<\/strong> Watch for storms and get to shore at the first sign of lightning. Be mindful of changing tides to avoid running aground.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dive flags.<\/strong> When you see a red and white flag indicating divers below, slow down and keep a safe distance.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Seagrass.<\/strong> Stay in deeper water and steer clear of  seagrass beds to avoid harmful prop scarring.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><div id=\"panel-12910-1-0-1\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_sow-editor\" data-index=\"2\" ><div\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\tclass=\"so-widget-sow-editor so-widget-sow-editor-base\"\n\t\t\t\n\t\t>\n<div class=\"siteorigin-widget-tinymce textwidget\">\n\t<h4>Minimum Required Safety Equipment for Recreational Boaters in Florida*<\/h4>\n<p>The owner and\/or operator of a vessel is responsible to carry, store, maintain and use the safety equipment required by the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG). On boats less than 26 feet, children under six must wear approved and properly fitting PFD when underway.<\/li>\n<li><b>Fire extinguisher(s)\u00a0<\/b>Must be USCG approved and in serviceable condition.<\/li>\n<li><b>Visual distress signals\u00a0<\/b>Required anytime the distance between shorelines is more than two miles.<\/li>\n<li><b>Sound producing device\u00a0<\/b>Device must be capable of producing a constant blast of at least six seconds and be audible for at least one-half mile. All vessels 39.4 feet in length or greater must also carry a bell that is capable of producing a clear, bell-like tone.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n                \n            <\/div>\n            \n<p style=\"font-size:10px;\">*Different class vessels (based on overall length) may have additional safety equipment requirements. In addition, passenger-carrying and other commercial vessels have slightly different requirements.
