Boating south of Fort Myers Beach should get a lot easier soon.

The City will begin construction of the Boat Ramp Rehabilitation project at the Boat Ramp located at 888 Sextant Drive on Wednesday, July 5, 2017. The Boat Ramp will be closed until Friday, September 8, 2017 weather permitting. The Picnic Area and Restroom Facilities will remain open during this time.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) needs your help in monitoring fish health by tracking marine and freshwater fish kills in Florida.
FWC scientists monitor and document fish kills and diseases, as well as other aquatic animal health issues and associated environmental events.

This Friday, June 16, begins the first weekend of an additional 39-day season for recreational red snapper fishing in Gulf federal waters and changes to the state season. The U.S. Department of Commerce announced these expanded fishing opportunities today, and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) followed with an executive order setting the updated season in state waters.

TALLAHASSEE — The West Indian manatee is being downgraded from endangered to threatened under federal law, the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced Thursday.

If dry conditions continue, several locks will be closed for safety reasons.

The US Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District received word today that Palm Beach County will undertake emergency repairs on the bridge at Torrey Island near Belle Glade. Operation of the bridge has been suspended, effectively closing Route 2 of the Okeechobee Waterway (also known as the “Rim Canal”) at that location as most boats are too tall to pass under the structure. We expect that boaters will feel the impacts from this closure for the rest of the month. The Corps is issuing a notice to navigation on this subject, attached to this note.
